Sandblasting of plexiglass – professional matting and decorative surface treatment

Sandblasting plexiglass serves to matt the surface of the material and create a decorative satin finish. The use of an abrasive gently roughens the surface, causing it to lose its transparency and take on a matt finish.

Sandblasting of plexiglass is primarily used in the production of advertising boards, company logos, wayfinding systems, design elements and interior partitions. The matt finish reduces glare whilst allowing light to pass through.

Mechanical sandblasting versus sandblasted film

Mechanical sandblasting:

It is important to note that the actual mechanical sandblasting of plexiglass is a technically demanding process. It is a manual or semi-automatic operation requiring specialised equipment, the production of stencils and subsequent finishing of the material.

Sandblasted - diffusing film:

In many cases, therefore, we recommend a more cost-effective option to our customers: applying a sandblasted film to the surface of the plexiglass. Modern sandblasted films closely mimic the appearance of a genuine sandblasted surface and offer an affordable solution.
